Self-Organizing Graphs - A Neural Network Perspective of Graph Layout
نویسنده
چکیده
The paper presents self-organizing graphs, a novel approach to graph layout based on a competitive learning algorithm. This method is an extension of self-organization strategies known from unsupervised neural networks, namely from Kohonen's self-organizing map. Its main advantage is that it is very exibly adaptable to arbitrary types of visualization spaces, for it is explicitly parameterized by a metric model of the layout space. Yet the method consumes comparatively little computational resources and does not need any heavy-duty preprocess-ing. Unlike with other stochastic layout algorithms, not even the costly repeated evaluation of an objective function is required. To our knowledge this is the rst con-nectionist approach to graph layout. The paper presents applications to 2D-layout as well as to 3D-layout and to layout in arbitrary metric spaces, such as networks on spherical surfaces.

Study of Neural Network Algorithm for Straight-Line Drawings of Planar Graphs
Graph drawing addresses the problem of finding a layout of a graph that satisfies given aesthetic and understandability objectives. The most important objective in graph drawing is minimization of the number of crossings in the drawing, as the aesthetics and readability of graph drawings depend on the number of edge crossings. VLSI layouts with fewer crossings are more easily realizable and con...

This paper proposes a new method to distinguish the printed digits, regardless of font and size, using neural networks.Unlike our proposed method, existing neural network based techniques are only able to recognize the trained fonts. These methods need a large database containing digits in various fonts. New fonts are often introduced to the public, which may not be truly recognized by the Opti...
متن کاملLandforms identification using neural network-self organizing map and SRTM data
During an 11 days mission in February 2000 the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) collected data over 80% of the Earth's land surface, for all areas between 60 degrees N and 56 degrees S latitude. Since SRTM data became available, many studies utilized them for application in topography and morphometric landscape analysis. Exploiting SRTM data for recognition and extraction of topographic ...
متن کاملA self-organizing map for adaptive processing of structured data
Recent developments in the area of neural networks produced models capable of dealing with structured data. Here, we propose the first fully unsupervised model, namely an extension of traditional self-organizing maps (SOMs), for the processing of labeled directed acyclic graphs (DAGs). The extension is obtained by using the unfolding procedure adopted in recurrent and recursive neural networks,...
متن کاملA Method for Body Fat Composition Analysis in Abdominal Magnetic Resonance Images Via Self-Organizing Map Neural Network
Introduction: The present study aimed to suggest an unsupervised method for the segmentation of visceral adipose tissue (VAT) and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) in axial magnetic resonance (MR) images of the abdomen. Materials and Methods: A self-organizing map (SOM) neural network was designed to segment the adipose tissue from other tissues in the MR images. The segmentation of SAT and VA...
